Hays Knowledgebase Question:
I purchased a Hays 90-210 clutch kit for the above vehicle. The OEM clutch did not hold up to the demands of snowplowing. The clutch worked quite well for a portion of on plowing season. This past summer I rebuilt the engine as with 200k+ miles it was getting tired. As I pulled the engine off the transmission (trans left in the truck) it seemed that the 2 components did not want to separate. I attributed this to an misalignment problem, despite never having this difficulty before. I reinstalled the clutch assembly onto the rebuilt engine. Installed the engine into the truck again having a problem getting the 2 components to mate. Again I attributed the problem to an alignment problem on my part, despite not having this problem in many past engine or transmission replacements. Once the asssembly was completed and the engine running I discovered the clutch would not completely disengage. I bled the hydraulic clutch mechanism several times and could not completely remove all the air. Finally I removed the transmission/transfer case to inspect the clutch. Once again the transmission was difficult to separate from the engine. I found the center hub (the ring which slides over the input shaft) to be broken loose from the rest of the hub. I attributed this damage to my installation procedures. I reordered another 90-210 clutch kits, due to the performance of the previous 90-210 clutch. To my surprise the hub of clutch disc of the new clutch kit has been modified when compared to the old 90-210. As the rotational dampening springs have been reduced in size and the center hub is thinner than the old 90-210 clutch I wonder if there has been a problem with that design resulting in the modification to the clutch disc. If this is the case do I have any possible warranty claim? I can provide the parts, the installation / removal dates and the miles of use of the original 90-210 clutch. Thanks.
Reply from Rep:
This change in the Disc cosmetic appearance is because we use different clutch disc suppliers. Both a Good Units. No reason for any Warranty. They are both correct good products. Just different styles. They will perform same !
